Dog Behaviour Consultations

Do you need the help of a behaviourist?

Sometimes, our dogs develop behavioural issues that cannot be corrected by training alone. For these cases, an in-depth understanding of causes and reinforcing factors is needed before the behaviour can be successfully modified.

Common problems include aggression towards people and other pets, separation issues, fears and phobias, attention seeking behaviours, inappropriate chase behaviour, house training problems, repetitive behaviours etc.

What happens in a behaviour consultation?

The consultation normally takes place in your home and lasts around 2 hours. During that time we will establish why the behaviour occurs and put together a behaviour modification programme to help you and your dog.
A few days after your consultation you will receive a written report summarising the consultation and explaining the modification plan in detail. Your vet will also receive a copy of the report.

You can expect to spend a certain amount of time every day (at least 10 minutes twice a day to start with) in working with your dog on this programme. The length of time this takes will depend on the problem and some behaviours may require you to be vigilant for a number of months

Before any consultation can take place, we ask you to take your dog to your veterinary surgeon for a full health check to rule out any underling medical cause for your dog's behaviour (this will not be necessary if your vet has referred you directly to us).

Is your dog insured? Many insurance companies will cover the cost of a behaviour consultation if you have been referred to us by your vet.

How much will a consultation cost?

The cost of the consultation is £120 and includes all the elements described above and all travelling expenses within 10 miles of Guildford.

We will also give you follow up telephone calls in the weeks following the consultation to check on progress.

Follow-up home visits are charged at our training rate (£40 per hour within 10 miles of Guildford, £50 per hour between within 10 to 20 miles.
